National Storytelling Week! Tell Your Story

National Storytelling Week takes place from the 27th January to 4th February this year. You’ll have seen it in my Content Prompts along with lots of other ideas. Telling your story creates what’s called evergreen content, this can be used over and over again. Your story also helps your audience connect with you and get to know the person behind the social media feed. As humans we are predisposed to like stories and your story is content gold dust – trust me.

This is the perfect reason to get your story down on paper if you’ve been putting it off. Retell it if you’ve told it before, expand upon it or give us an update because this is life and there’s always a new chapter.

My friend Caroline, Founder of Cheerleader PR believes that everybody has one book in them, I know I certainly do but finding time to write it is another matter.

Once upon a time, storytelling was a way to pass the time. As human beings we pre programmed to like a good story and be attracted to those who tell the best ones. The sharing between teller and listener empowers, feeding the imagination from one generation to the next, it’s an excellent way to both entertain and teach each other new ideas.

Now, I love a good book and the more you read, the better you write. All the best writers are passionate readers. We should all spend more time reading and less time scrolling (yes I did say get off social media and read) but realistically, we ARE looking for a good story when we are browsing. To learn, to educate, to be nosy, looking for some gossip, style inspiration… the list goes on.

Every single business owner needs to tell their story periodically and you can break it down into at least 6 pieces of content to post across your social channels, you may even want to collate them all when you are done – voila – you have a blog post.

Who? Sharing who you are as a person and who you are as a business helps e.g

I’m Clare Clifford, Mum,Yorkshire lass, business owner, lover of shoes, expert in content.

What? What do you do or what product do you sell e.g

I make businesses shine online through optimising their content strategy.

Where are you? Geographically but also, where does your business service? The globe, the local village, UK, Yorkshire e.g

I’m based in Leeds and can work virtually with any English speaking client. Fact – I am awful at languages.

Why? Why do you do what you do e.g

Because I love words, I enjoy using the Swiss Army knife of tools at my disposal to create the right approach for each and every client to turn their posts into pounds.

On a personal note – it allows me to be my own boss and have the flexibility to go to school plays, work when I perform the best, not when 9-5 hours demand it.

When? This could be your opening hours, when you founded your business e.g

I have spent over 20 years in marketing and Sunshine Digital Media is 6 years old.

Please feel free to drop me a message at any time and I’ll reply within 24 (working) hours.

How? How do you do what you do e.g

Through spending two decades in my specialism working with businesses big and small across lots of sectors. This enables me to save your time and make you more money.

Right – there you have the bare bones of 6 posts that every single business owner can write – no excuses. Write them down, the answer will be different for each and every one of you. I’ll be taking part too and expanding upon my who, what, where, why, when, and how over on my social channels. You saw the trailer here first!

Please tag me when you share your story, although I don’t read as many books as I should, I am absolutely fascinated by people and their stories.

You know where I am if you need some help with this.
